Sources of Personal Information
Learn more about the sources of personal information we collect inHow We Use and Share Personal Information
We collect and share your personal information through:
We have not sold or shared any personal information to third parties for a business or commercial purpose in the preceding twelve (12) months. We have disclosed the following categories of personal information to third parties for a business or commercial purpose in the preceding twelve (12) months: by submitting a data subject access request, by emailing us at info@kit.club , or by referring to the contact details at the bottom of this document.
Kit shows no advertising, and we don't let advertisers or ad networks place cookies, pixels or other tracking technologies on our website or in our apps. Some product pages on our website link to retailers, directly or through affiliate programs such as Amazon, and we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Kit earns from qualifying purchases. The link tells the retailer which Kit product page you came from, never who you are. We record that a link was clicked, without linking the click to your account, so commissions can be counted per product; commission reports tell us which products sold, not who bought them. Once you are on a retailer's site, the retailer or affiliate program (for example Amazon) may collect information directly from you and place or recognize cookies on your browser, under its own privacy notice. The current mobile apps do not show buying or affiliate links; if they do in future, a retailer link will open the retailer's own site in your browser, never inside the app. We do not send your skincare profile to retailers or use it for advertising.
With your permission, Kit sends product-packaging photos to Google Vertex AI to identify products. Kit processes photos temporarily and does not save them in its backend, image logs, or your account. The app deletes its temporary copies immediately after upload. Barcode lookup sends the barcode number to Kit, not a camera image to Google. The scanner does not analyze faces or skin.
Kit calculates match scores. To explain a result, Vertex receives the product brand, name and category; Kit’s score, result band, confidence and match reasons; skin-type tags, sensitivity level, ranked cosmetic goals and priorities, weighted concerns derived from those goals, ingredients you avoid, your rating or love of that product, and language. We do not add your name, email or Kit account ID. Removing direct identifiers does not guarantee that every input is anonymous; keep personal details out of photos.
With AI features enabled in the mobile app, search text may be processed by Google Vertex AI, including conversion to a vector or interpretation of the query, to understand what you are looking for. Search text is sent without your name, email or Kit account ID and is not linked to your account in the AI request.
In the mobile apps, we request separate permission before sending product photos, profile signals for explanations, or search queries to Vertex. You can decline and can turn AI features on or off at any time: tap your avatar, then AI features. When AI features are off, the app sends nothing to Vertex: no photos, explanations or search queries. Barcode scanning, keyword-only product search and Kit-calculated match scores remain available. Contact info@kit.club for help. Camera permission and acceptance of the Terms do not replace AI permission.
We do not authorize Google to train its AI models on these inputs or outputs. Google processes data under its applicable Cloud terms, which may allow limited processing or retention for service operation, security, legal compliance or abuse prevention. Kit’s disposal of a photo is not a promise of zero retention by Google.
These Kit-specific clauses describe the current website and mobile apps. Where general wording or examples elsewhere in this notice differ on age, sign-in, advertising, device data, information categories, AI processing or retention, these specific descriptions control. They do not limit your privacy rights. Kit is for adults aged 18 or older; parental permission does not make a minor eligible to use the Service.
Every skincare-profile question is optional. You may provide cosmetic goals, skin type, how easily your skin reacts, ingredients you avoid, and preferences such as vegan or fragrance-free products. The quiz does not ask about diagnosed conditions, pregnancy or medication. We use these answers only to personalize product matches and flag ingredients. They are private to your account and are never shown to other members, used for advertising or sold. With your separate AI permission, relevant signals may be sent to Vertex to explain your matches as described above. You can change or clear your answers in the app under Skin profile. Deleting your account deletes your skincare profile.
Generated explanations are cached locally in the app for up to 24 hours and cleared on that device when you delete your account. Successful and failed scan records are separate from photos. They can contain an account ID, product or variant, barcode, scan method, guessed brand or name as text, and relevant timestamps. Current backend backups are retained for 24 hours, subject to limited legally required retention.
Usage events can contain an account ID, HTTP User-Agent string, hashed IP address, referrer and session ID. The User-Agent reflects the app or operating-system networking software and does not identify the hardware model. When an account is deleted, the user ID, IP hash, User-Agent, referrer and session ID are removed from its scan and view events. Separate request logs contain IP address, requested URL (including search text), and account ID and are retained for approximately 30 days. Hashing an IP address does not by itself make the record anonymous.
Account deletion removes your account and Firebase login, revokes the associated Apple sign-in token where applicable, and deletes your skincare profile, library, Kits, comments, reviews, ratings, likes, follows, stored Discover sessions, quota usage, and reports targeting you or your content from active systems. Certain records remain in de-identified form, with your user ID removed: usage events, failed scans, barcode suggestions, wrong-product reports, and affiliate purchase-click records. These support service usage analysis, catalogue quality and commission reconciliation. Admin audit records are also retained with the account link removed, for admin accounts only. These retained records are separate from the request logs and backups described above.
Kit does not serve advertisements or sell or share personal information for advertising. We do not permit third parties to use tracking technologies on our Services to display or personalize advertisements. The mobile apps do not include analytics, crash-reporting, or advertising SDKs and do not request IDFA or AAID. General examples of personalized advertising, social-media advertising and abandoned-cart reminders do not describe Kit’s current practices. Kit does not collect payment information or purchase history. Website retailer links record which link was clicked, not a purchase. Website affiliate links are explained separately above; they do not mean that Kit shares skincare profiles for advertising. The mobile apps do not read the hardware model, operating-system version, or mobile carrier to send to Kit. Expo, our app-update provider, receives the platform (iOS or Android), app version, and a random identifier for each installation to deliver updates. That installation identifier is not linked to your Kit account and is not used for tracking. It is distinct from an advertising identifier or hardware identifier.
For the US state-law table, Kit does not collect transaction information, purchase history, financial details or payment information. Website retailer-link clicks are recorded as internet or other similar network activity (category F). Sensitive personal information in that table is limited to account-login information processed for authentication under those laws. General statements that we do not process sensitive information do not exclude those authentication credentials. The optional skincare quiz concerns cosmetic preferences, not diagnosed conditions, pregnancy or medication.
The app requests camera access for scanning, not microphone, photo-library or precise-location access. Umami is used only on the webapp, without receiving your Kit account ID, email or skincare profile; it is not used in the mobile apps. Our backend runs in Belgium, our Neon database in Frankfurt, Germany, and Vertex is configured in Europe. Kit is a US company and other provider operations may involve international processing.
The sign-in providers actually used are Apple and Google, through Firebase Authentication. We receive account information from these third parties when you choose their sign-in option, notwithstanding any general statement elsewhere that we do not collect information from third parties. We offer only Google and Apple sign-in and do not obtain user profiles from data brokers, public databases or marketing partners. We receive information made available through those sign-in flows, such as name, email, account identifiers and a profile image where provided; we do not obtain friends lists or contacts. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we receive an Apple relay address instead of your own. You can delete your account in the app through your avatar menu and the account-deletion option, or on the website through Profile → Settings → Danger zone. Contact info@kit.club if you need assistance. Uninstalling the app does not delete the account.
